Continuing the prevention of color fade series

Wondering why your hair colour fades?

Your shampooing routine could be a culprit!

For starters washing your hair too regularly can affect your hair colour. You should always give your hair a couple of days before washing again after your colour service. We looked at the type of water you may have – hard or soft and determined that hard water is never a friend to your hair a colour. Today, we will look at a couple of other factors. Firstly, the water temperature. Lukewarm water is best. Hot water opens the hair cuticles and allows for colour molecules to escape. Cool/cold water helps the cuticles of the hair to close and lie flat.

Next you need to look at your shampoo. As previously mentioned the Ph Balance of your shampoo is important. The other thing to look at is the ingredient list. SLR or Sodium Laurel/Laureth Sulfates are culprits for fading colour. If you speak with your stylist they can advise you on the best colour care shampoo and conditioners. They may not be considered a little more expensive but they will be quality and last you a while if used correctly and therefore economical in the long run. Love your hair, look after your colour and use quality home care products.
