21 Mar Things to consider before your appointment
Going into a hair appointment uncertain or in two or more minds about what you want is a recipe that could go one of two ways; really well or end in disappointment if not disaster for you. Not knowing with certainty what you want requires immense trust in your stylist and leaves a great deal open to their interpretation. If you are not confident in your stylist or been in a long term relationship with them it is best to get clear on what you want.
Take the time to browse pictures and save them to help communicate your message. Stylists are visual people and so pictures can speak a thousand words as not everyone is great at communicating what they want. Your stylist is not a mind reader, so the more pictures the better, and, if you want to change something then do not be afraid to speak up. It is your hair and your stylist’s ultimate goal is to please you. Remember though, images can be doctored and so pictures you view on say instagram are in reality part fantasy, so be open to discussion from the stylists. Remember too that pictures are inspiration. The ability to one hundred per cent replicate a style exactly has many factors to it. Keep in mind that the model’s hair may be completely different in thickness, length, texture and character to yours.
Are you being realistic in our world of fantasy colour and prepared for a financial commitment? Creative colours and corrective colouring can take time and get expensive. There is a lot more involved in colour than what meets the eye. You need to trust your stylist and be prepared for a journey sometimes. Trendy colours fade fast! Have you sat down and had a consultation? With colouring being what it is these days it is fair to your stylist and yourself to sit down at a time before your appointment date and discuss your requirements. This will allow for your stylist to give you understanding and better be able to quote your service and book off enough time for your appointment. It is vital to be prepared. Many colouring techniques require serious commitment to maintain and require a budget. To love your hair requires that you give it the correct TLC regime prescribed by your trusted stylist.
Honesty is the best policy. When preparing for a colour service have you been upfront about your colour history or journey over the past two plus years? Your stylist will develop their strategy and approach to giving you what you wish based upon the information you give them. If a piece of the puzzle is missing then things may not turn out as expected. This would be not only disappointing or devastating for you but also your stylist.
Are you open to honest guidance from your stylist? Do you trust your stylist to accept when something is not ideal for your hair particularly when it comes to the health and integrity aspect? Remember, doing what you want is only part of a good stylist’s job. The other side to being a good stylist is to care for your hair.
When you work as team with your stylist and give the necessary recommended considerations and TLC you are bound to love your hair.
